Operation Sindoor airport closure: More than twenty-hours after the Operation Sindoor struck Pakistan and international airlines diverted over 50 flights from the Indo-Pak airspace, more than 300 flight schedules have been disrupted. More than 20 airports across the Northern and Western border in India have closed for operations for commercial aviation.

About 3% of the country’s total scheduled flights have been disrupted as major airports like Chandigarh, Amritsar and Dharamshala have closed till May 10. In Pakistan, following suspected blast noises, the Lahore airport has been closed too. Nearly 150 flights in Pakistan were cancelled as airlines like Korean Air and Air-France were avoiding the conflict prone airspace.

Airports closed till now

As per recent FlightRadar 24 reports, there were no flights over Lahore, Sialkot or Karachi. Only a handful of flights were seen approaching Zhob, Peshawar and Quetta. Similarly for India, Rajkot, Shimla, Hindon, Kishangarh, Gwalior, Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Jamnagar, Bhuj, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Mundra, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod, Bhuntar, Halwar,Bhatinda, Patiala, Ludhiana, Gaggal and Jaiselmer have been shut.

Showing a comparison snapshot from early April, Operation Sindoor have severely impacted air-traffic over these regions. The growing geopolitical tensions have risen concern for safe travel among other defence airports such as Pune as well.

Airlines announced suspension till May 10

Air India, Indigo, Akasa and SpiceJet announced a travel advisory about cancellation of flights to and from Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Dharamshala, Kandla, Amritsar till May 10. On Wednesday, May 7, Air India re-routed two international flights and American Airlines cancelled their Delhi to New York flight. Foreign carriers like Qatar Airways completely stopped flying over Pakistan earlier yesterday while the airspace wasn’t officially closed.

300 flights and 21 airports, the air-traffic has been truly in a frenzy following Operation Sindoor. To ensure passenger safety, the suspended airports span 10 states in India.
