A MUM has spoken of her terror when a car ended up on top of her in a hit and run incident.
Alicia Mae, 28, said she was hit by a reversing car while walking her son to school on March 17.
According to Ms Mae, the incident happened around 8.45am on Hendre Farm Drive, near Milton Primary School in Newport
She said the impact caused her to fall, injuring her spine, and she ended up almost directly under the car.
Ms Mae told the Argus: "I just about managed to roll over onto my front and I remember thinking, 'oh my god, I've got a car right on top of me,' as I'd ended up directly underneath the car."
She added that her son was screaming and asking if she was okay.
Ms Mae said that after she managed to get out from under the car, the driver refused to provide insurance details.
Instead, she claims both the driver and passenger got out of the car and began "yelling at me and shouting aggressively in my face and at my son."
She added: "It was so scary because these people were just shouting abuse at me and seemed to know an awful lot about my life, so I was just really shaken up on top of being injured."
Ms Mae explained that the incident left her so shaken that a stranger, who hadn't witnessed the event but heard the shouting, offered to take her home, while another took her son into school as she was not in a fit state to do so.
She said she reported the incident to the police within an hour of returning home and was asked to attend an interview the following day after being discharged from hospital.
Ms Mae said: "I got asked to come in at 1pm the next day, so I did, and I remember feeling really unsafe because I was met by just one officer and taken into a room that didn't appear to have any cameras or recording equipment, so I didn't know if this would be an official interview.
"I didn't get asked for an official statement and was refused when I asked for the driver's insurance details, and now the police are refusing to do anything."
Ms Mae added that the driver had contacted her family hours after the incident, causing more trauma for the family.
She said: "They've completely traumatised my whole family, and it's got so bad for me that I've had to be picked up and taken to my family's home four hours away, and not been able to see my son since the incident because I'm struggling."
Ms Mae claims she has repeatedly tried to get help from the police, but has been let down.
She said: "I'm now left traumatised and desperately trying to recover, all the while being unable to see my son, who has been just as badly affected, and nobody seems to care."
A statement from Gwent Police said: "We received a call at about 9.20am on Monday 17 March reporting a collision between a car and a pedestrian where the car had left the scene.
"The pedestrian went to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"Officers are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of the collision and the investigation is ongoing at this time."
