Nepalese Authority Visit Fijian Counterpart

A high level Nepalese government delegation yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Commissioner of Police Isikeli Ligairi.

The delegation comprising senior officials from the Department of Money Laundering Investigations, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Financial Information Unit, Security Board and Insurance Board of Nepal.

An overview of the Fiji Police Force was presented by the deputy director Planning Superintendent of Police (SP) Mahen Shyam.

He outlined the history and way forward for the institution as well as the obligations both locally and on the international front.

The head of delegation was director general of the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Jiwan Prakash Sitaula.

He said they were looking forward to hearing from the Fiji Police’s Anti-Money Laundering and Criminal Investigations Department on how cases are dealt with on both the local and international level.

ACP Ligairi said the Fiji Police Force has a healthy working relationship with many international countries and Anti-Money laundering institutions.

He said the Fiji Police Force was looking to establish links with more countries and was optimistic the visit by the delegation would assist in forging a new working relationship with Nepalese law enforcement agencies.

The delegation will hold a technical briefing with the Fiji Police Force’s Anti Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Unit following the courtesy visit.

The visit was co-ordinated by the director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Razim Buksh.
