FARGO — The Moorhead softball team rallied behind pitcher Kellsey Klundt in the second game of a cross-border doubleheader to earn a split with West Fargo on Friday at North Dakota State's Tharaldson Park.
The Packers took the first game 14-8 before the Spuds rebounded for a 7-5 victory in the nightcap.
In the first game, West Fargo took a 9-1 lead with four runs in the fourth inning but the Spuds weren't out of it, scoring four in the bottom half of the fourth to more halve the deficit.
But the Packers got one run back in the sixth, then all but iced the game with four runs in the top of the seventh to go up 14-5. The Spuds got three runs in their last at-bat but couldn't sustain the rally.
West Fargo's Courtney Docktor had a huge game, going 5 for 5 with two doubles, four runs batted in and she scored four runs.

Grace Vetter was 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs and Kendal Krenz also had two hits and two RBIs.
Aubrey Finn and Delia Osland both were 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Katelyn Kackman doubled twice and drove in a run. Sydney Dye had two hits, including a triple, and had an RBI.
Moorhead's Alexa Krueger hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and she finished 2 for 5 with a double and five RBIs. Lily Heskin was 4 for 5 with a triple and an RBI, Addie Salvevold tripled and drove in a run and Rylie Spitzner was 3 for 4 with a double. Paige Stephenson was 2 for 4, Madden Bogenreif had a hit and an RBI and Payton Babolian doubled.
In the second game, the Packers and Spuds traded the lead twice before Moorhead scored a run in the bottom of the third to tie it 5-5.
In the fourth inning, Moorhead regained the lead when Heskin reached on a bunt single, stole second and tagged and took third on Bogenreif's fly ball to center. Heskin then scored the go-ahead run on Osland's groundout.
In the sixth, the Spuds added an insurance run when Stephenson singled to lead off and took second on Klundt's sacrifice. With two outs, Babolian lined a single to right to scored Stephenson.
Klundt did the rest, setting the Packers down in order in the sixth and allowing a one-out single in the seventh before getting a pop out and a force out at second base to end the game.
Klundt went the distance, allowing two earned runs on six hits, walking two and striking out eight.

Babolian was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Heskin and Taylor Brueske with had two hits and an RBI. Taylor Kressen had a hit and two RBIs and Bogenreif had two hits.
Vetter hit her second homer of the day for the Packers and finished with two RBIs. Docktor and Grace Wehri had hits and drove in runs.
The Spuds are 6-6 overall and the Packers are 9-4 overall.
