In 2019, royalties were paid to 33,200 persons in Latvia

In 2019, royalties were paid to 33,200 persons in Latvia, including in the sectors of culture, sports, construction, food and furniture manufacturing, LETA learned from the Finance Ministry.

Most often royalties were paid in education sector (7,416 people), also in public administration and defense, and mandatory social insurance (5,196), in operations of public, political and other organizations (4,841).


Also, royalties were paid to people in creative, artistic and entertainment sector (4,794), advertising sector (4,579), publishing sector (4,024), and film making sector (2,860), as well as entertainment sector (1,704), information services sector (1.621), radio and TV sector (1,143), libraries, archives, museums and other culture institutions sector (809), catering sector (518), architecture (472), health protection sector (398), real estate sector (381), legal and accountancy services (221), tourism (213), construction (154), polygraphy (123).


In separate cases, royalties were also paid to people working in the telecommunication, forestry, accommodation, clothing manufacturing, car repair, gambling, waste management, security, food and beverages production, furniture manufacturing and veterinary services sector.


As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on October 9 supported changes in the tax regime for recipients of royalties. From July 1 until December 31, 2021, payers of royalties will pay 25% from the sum that will be distributed between mandatory state social insurance contribution (80%) and personal income tax (20%).
